In the ‘50’s, we had fewer choices. I can’t remember if we had four or five channels on our small TV. Food choices were more limited. Chinese food was always taken home in white boxes and included American inventions like
chop suey. We were okay with it, until we had more options.
Cars
Our choice in cars has expanded greatly nearly every year since Henry Ford told us, “You can have any color you want as long as it’s black.” People have reveled in these options, able to prioritize safety, gas mileage, looks, performance and more, as they saw fit.
Blue states increasingly want to force us into electric cars, even as they are aware that these cars are too expensive for many of us AND that there is simply not enough charging capacity to support any increase. It also takes too long to charge the cars. The worst part is that the “justification” is completely ludicrous. Electric cars aren’t “climate friendly.” The rare earth metals to make the batteries are a huge problem; mining them is very hard on the Earth, (and most of these elements come from Chinese-controlled mines). Batteries last, at most, 10 years and can’t be recycled, adding to the waste. And when you charge the car, the electricity isn’t carbon-neutral; most electricity is created by fossil fuels. It is true that the car doesn’t emit pollution, but building it and charging it makes it not climate-friendly. In California, (and many other places), the infrastructure to supply the electricity simply isn’t there, and there is no plan to fix this.) In fact, we have had brownouts and outages when the load is too high; there is no fallback. And this is while electric car adoption is still fairly low.
Stoves
The Left has decided to force us to use electric stoves in the future, whether we want to or not. I have never done much cooking on gas, but I’m well aware that chefs, in particular, believe they have far more control on their gas stoves. But someone decided that natural gas can damage people, even though it hasn’t over the many years of its existence. Biden thinks that natural gas has to go, even as gas was largely responsible for our energy independence. In most cases, natural gas is cheaper and more efficient. We certainly don’t have “brown-outs.”
Food
The Left wants to control our food too. Attacks were initially ineffectual; banning huge sodas in New York didn’t work. But this didn’t stop the Left. They kept intruding with a variety of excuses. “This food isn’t good for you, this food hurts the planet, we shouldn’t eat animals”, etc. Still, vegan isn’t enough for their desire for control. Now, bugs are supposed to substitute for protein. Note: I doubt we’ll see the Bidens dining down on tarantulas or King Charles munching cockroaches. (One note: at the Hyde Park Zoo in London, an exhibit on small animals proclaims that cockroaches are pets. The Dutch government wants to hurt small farmers, keeping them from producing food that we all enjoy. Where does it stop? While many around the world are hungry, governments seek to cut the food supply.
Heating and Cooling
Think your gas furnace is safe? Or how about your water heater? If the Left’s “excuse” for getting rid of natural gas holds, you’re going to be hit with a lot higher costs going forward as you have to replace your appliances AND get new hook-ups to move to electric. You’ll also find you have far less choice and will probably pay more.
Your Money
Yes, your money is at risk. Biden wants digital currency, which would basically allow all kinds of nefarious controls. You are considered a cancelled or disfavored person? The government could see to it that you have no access to your money. Want to take advantage of a sale on bacon? You might find you can’t buy it. And forget about buying a gun or ammunition. That kind of purchase would be disallowed, a backdoor way of getting rid of the 2nd Amendment. The Left has tried hard to monitor our spending by making credit card processors tag your purchases with a code. So far, it hasn’t caused problems, but with digital currency, they can determine exactly what you bought. While our currency is no longer backed by gold and is thus, subject to the whims of the government, at least you can spend cash with no oversight. This gives you options.
Why Are They Doing This?
I don’t believe it has anything to do with cleaner air or climate change. It’s all about control. Governments always seek as much power as they can get. Covid controls taught them how far they could go when people were scared of dying from this lab-designed virus. But climate change alone isn’t enough to scare people into ceding all their rights to the government. So, they have to pass laws to prevent people from exercising their freedom of choice.
In the ‘50’s, we had what we had; it wasn’t government policy limiting our choices. What we need to do now is to fight back against ANY encroachment on our ability to choose. Ignore the pretense that we are saving the planet. We aren’t. Electric cars aren’t that much better. Electric stoves aren’t a fix. This is just about control. We need to fight it and topple the Lefties who will, of course, not be impacted by the laws they pass. After all, how many government workers have Obamacare?
Politicians don't like us having rights. They should control everything, in their opinion, particularly on the Left. Too much compliance during Covid gave them the belief that they could do anything. We need to say no. I'll never buy an electric car and BTW, the CEO of Toyota says he'll never make one. Hybrids, yes. E-cars, no.
All so true. I still believe the proliferation of controls is based on the realization that there is no check or consequences. Until there is enough pushback it’ll continue with the unfortunate side effect of having already ceded essential rights.
