Joe Biden has managed to run up a substantial list of blunders without achieving either his goals or those of our country. The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan (ignoring the guidance of the military) stands out of course, with the loss of life and treasure. But the vaccine mandate is worse, as it is impacting us now and will hurt us in the future.
Vaccine Mandates Don’t Work
Despite the possible loss of life and health from various illnesses, we never come close to 100% uptake in vaccines for those diseases we can vaccinate against. The reasons vary from a belief that you won’t get the illness to a fear of the vaccine itself (among a list of concerns), but the reality is that without a police state, everyone didn’t even get vaccinated against polio. People value choice and have reasons for their decisions, even if you and the government don’t agree.
Mandates just make it worse. People of every political stripe tend to dig in their heels when something is mandated. We saw this with masks, a situation that wasn’t helped with the changing guidance on masking, from “you don’t need to” to the ridiculous “three-mask requirement, only to be removed between bites at a restaurant.” While some may comply when their job is threatened, too many won’t. For my Blue state friends, this is also why torture doesn’t work. When the threat is really great, people find inner courage and strength to resist. While the numbers aren’t in, I suspect that few people are changing their minds on the CCP virus vaccine.
We also have to consider the highly suspicious exemptions, such as Congress. If this is truly an emergency, why is anyone exempt?
Damage to the Economy & Our Health
I had this notion that the mandates were merely a way to somewhat increase compliance and weren’t actually going to be enforced. But now, we here about doctors and nurses losing their jobs. Aren’t these the heralded heroes of the crisis; the people some of us finally realized were essential to our health and wellness? We also understood there weren’t enough of them during the crisis, and yet, we feel happy to fire them, rather than to consider other options.
Southwest is now dealing with a sick-out, possibly because the pilots don’t want to get vaccinated and are also being faced with firing. They can’t admit that, but… Just like doctors and nurses, you can’t create new pilots overnight. As travel demands increase, what are people to do if there are no planes flying? Per the greens, we shouldn’t all get in our gas cars and drive somewhere. And are doctors and nurses truly not going to treat the unvaccinated? Is that who we are?
Follow the Science
We have been repeatedly told that masks and vaccines work. So, if you are vaccinated, you shouldn’t worry about dying from this, though you might get a mild case. If you aren’t and you worry, wear a mask. Yes, you might get a severe case and you might die, but the same is true of the flu, and every year, we tolerate a certain number of deaths from the flu (and other causes). If the science is true, we don’t all need to be vaccinated.
And let’s look at how the “safe” population is calculated. We don’t count those who have had the CCP “flu.” In my lifetime, this is the first time we refused to count those who’ve recovered in the “herd immunity” total. The latest reports indicate better immunity for those who have been infected than even those who have been fully vaccinated. We’re probably at herd immunity now, if anyone would bother to run the right numbers.
And here’s some science on immunity. Our bodies are very efficient. We don’t constantly produce antibodies to everything we’ve had or have been vaccinated from. We have an initial run-up of antibodies and then they break down. But our T-cells retain a memory of both the virus and the antibody they created. We have no way to actually measure this, but just as I don’t walk around fearing mumps or chickenpox because I’ve had both, I know that my body is not producing those antibodies now. And that’s okay.
What Works Better
Instead of crazy, job-killing laws, let’s dig a bit deeper into why people are refusing and perhaps be more compassionate. We make choices every day and many of those choices are not optimally healthy. We may be overweight, indulge in foods that are bad for us, drink a little too much. We may prefer high risk activities to sedentary ones. As adults, we have the freedom to make bad choices. With this goes the responsibility to take the consequences. My vaccine-fearing friends know they risk getting the disease and perhaps having long-term consequences, including dying. But they’ve made their choice.
Time for Biden and this government to admit this mistake and shut it down. Choose a vaccine, choose a mask or choose to take a risk. For children, parents can make these choices. But we need to move on and stop firing people for choices they make that only affect others who made the same choice—to not vaccinate. This is not a dictatorship. Or at least, it shouldn’t be allowed to become one.
“My body, my choice.”
This makes way to much sense. So, it's probably a waste of Liberals time reading it.
