The 2020 Election
The Democrat primaries spelled out a clear lesson for governing bodies; the people did not want the grandiose and costly visions of the progressive wing. Each of the candidates fell by the wayside as they proposed unpopular programs that would bankrupt the country and lead us more quickly into socialism. Biden emerged successful, most likely because he seemed to be moderate. With his years of working “across the aisle,” people felt that he would be able to get things done…The things they wanted to see happen.
Ignoring the legitimacy of the election, many people on both sides voted against Trump, rather than for Biden. But those who backed Biden felt sure that after the many decades, they knew what they were getting. Buyer’s remorse is reflected in the dismal polls, showing less confidence in him as the days pass. And this is merely the first year.
The Bernie Sanders Co-option
Almost immediately, Biden didn’t seem like himself (and not merely because of his increasingly obvious mental decline). His red pen slashed through successful and popular programs Trump had put in place, merely because Trump had authored them. At first, the Biden administration tried to claim credit for the vaccine, saying it was only really available after his inauguration (ignoring the fact that he himself had received it in December). Maybe we shouldn’t have been surprised. Since Obama famously began legislating through many executive orders, even pushing things he said were unconstitutional, presidents now feel empowered to do this, an issue that should be resolved sooner rather than later.
Next, taking advantage of his slim edge in Congress, Biden began to push through Bernie Sanders’ initiatives as fast as he could. These big, hairy, ugly proposals sound appealing to those who have difficulty handling their own money. Who wouldn’t want free stuff? But someone has to pay for it, a fact Sanders, Warren, Obama, Clinton, et al, try to pretend will never happen. We should all push back against this over-reach. For the self-employed, remember the promise of less expensive health insurance, which translated into unaffordable premiums and unreachable deductibles.
The Democrats are aware they only have two years in which to transform America, which is why they are ignoring a popular, bi-partisan (and realistic) infrastructure bill to push an agenda neither China nor Russia would attempt. AOC should be concerned; the richer she gets, the more likely she will find herself taxed heavily, as her statement ballgown proclaimed.
Who’s in Charge?
Many of us wonder who is actually running the Executive Branch. It isn’t Joe. He’s the show pony brought out for meet-and-greets earlier in the day, before he sundowns and can’t be trusted. It isn’t Kamala—she’s wildly unpopular and even her boss won’t give her a job that will help her shine. Some speculate that this is Obama’s 3rd term, and certainly, he’s enjoying the spectacle, but my guess is that he isn’t consulted. After playing 2nd fiddle to him for eight years, I doubt Biden is ready to listen to him now.
I wonder about George Soros. His finger weighs heavily on far too many international issues, especially the economic ones. If you ask who stands to benefit if the US fails to be the leader and becomes more socialist, who else could short us? He’s bet on that scale before and caused major economic damage to companies and countries before. This would be his big win.
What Can We Do?
Perhaps, like 9/11, this is a time we can come together as Americans and fight to save the integrity, viability and economic prominence of our country. We need to send letters, emails and texts to voice our discontent with the direction the country is heading. We need to challenge a hierarchy that puts January 6th activists away for long terms while ignoring the death, destruction, violence and harm of BLM protests.
We need to think not just of ourselves and this generation, but the ones to come. After all, the big spending is going to cost our children and grandchildren far more than it will cost us. The farther down this wormhole we go, the more impossible it will be to retrench and return to the productive, exciting and innovative country we have been since our founding.
And vote in 2022. Vote out the bums who ignore what is in the best interest of the majority of the citizens in our country. Ignore their party. If they will stand by us and not just feather their own nest, vote for them. Think about how they have voted. Right now, I am a huge fan of Manchin and Sinema, brave souls who remember who the Democrats were for many years. They work for their constituents, not for themselves and not for their party.
Let’s voice our anger and be heard. Let’s go Brandon.
