Biden now claims to finally have figured out how to close the border. Except, he isn’t doing anything. Any one of the Trump-era edicts would help, but he pushed those aside right after taking office. In fact, he is working harder to get illegals voting rights than he is in stanching the flow. We know why this is—he has no chance without a flurry of new voters who feel beholden to him. The taxpayer-funded gifts to these law-breakers will win votes, but won’t inspire the hard work that we remember from legal aliens.
But it’s not just our country fighting this battle…
Europe
European leaders claim to be in fear of another Trump victory, but…well, they should be. Looking at the recent elections, center-right parties that have held sway for years have fallen to nationalist parties. Leftist ones are crumbling. While parties and platforms vary from country to country, many residents are extremely unhappy with the admission of millions of migrants to their countries. Their reasoning resonates with Americans who are also angry at the invasion. One – the public benefits are too expensive and take away resources from actual citizens, especially veterans. Two – law-breaking appears to be okay for illegals; they evade the penalties that might keep them from continuing. But a big factor is their willful resistance to assimilating into their new countries.
When legal immigrants began coming to the US in droves, they sought out more than opportunity. They liked what our country represented. They wanted to share our values, without losing their heritage. But that’s not what’s happening with illegals here and migrants in Europe. They demand to create zones compliant with their dictates, ignoring the laws, rules and standards of their host country. Europeans are speaking with their vote, granting more than double the votes to Marine Le Pen’s National Rally party than were put in for Macron. France puts the lousy economy at the top of their list of concerns, but immigration comes in as a close second. In Germany, immigration is the number one issue.
Borders Matter
Citizens of a country have a right to determine who may enter and stay in their country. It’s the most important role of any nation-state. If we need certain kinds of workers, we should be ready to offer them entry. What we do not need is unskilled, non-English-speaking people who are enjoying a huge step-up in lifestyles courtesy of our tax dollars. How and when are they going to be shoved off the dole to work? And who needs them? At $20/hour in CA, they are not worth the pay without being able to communicate.
The Left claims they are fleeing poverty and seeking freedom, but what they are really after is lifelong support. They see Europe and America as rich countries, able to support millions of them, including children who are sadly given birthright citizenship. This last is a misreading of the Constitution; the only reason there was any provision for this was to give rights to slaves. Both 1st World areas are richer than others, but they are wealthier for a reason. People here are innovative and work very hard. That’s how wealth is created. It isn’t a product of Modern Monetary Theory, which believes governments can simply print more money without any impact.
We (and Europeans) only want people who will come into our country to work hard and learn the language. They must adopt the culture of their new country. These are not far-right values. The country works because of our historical values, as does Europe. We don’t need these values to be ignored or supplanted. We don’t need banlieus – sectors of a city where a culture insists on behaving as it did where the people came from. (Mostly Muslim)
Migrants of my Grandparents Generation
These people understood that where they lived wasn’t working well, so they came here knowing that whatever we were doing worked better. It isn’t to say capitalism is a great system; it just works better with real people than any other system devised. And that’s what makes these countries attractive. Our grandparents came here to work hard and hope to advance. They embraced our values, while still enjoying things like food and celebrations from their homeland. But they renounced the things that made their homelands fail. This has to happen again.
It isn’t easy. It isn’t supposed to be easy. The profession my grandfather was successful in when he lived in Germany wasn’t possible here. He kept at various jobs until he found one he could succeed at, without any vestige of government support. My grandmother gave up her singing and music career and took in kids for lessons. They did well, but only because they learned English and worked more hours than your average young person. First World countries are lands of boundless opportunity, but it isn’t to be given to you. You must earn it.
Don’t you wonder what would happen if all the freebies went away? No food, hotel rooms, transportation, medicine, etc., to illegals. Wouldn’t this problem sort itself out, by leaving us only those who are willing to work hard and earn their place in our society? We might not have to deport anyone, except the criminals.
