Every time I turn around, Governor (no I’m not running for President) Newsom is touring the country, touting all the ways he’s found to make the lives of Californians harder. It has always been a bit difficult to buy a gun. You have to pass a test and then wait until you are approved. This works so well for the women who have been threatened by an ex, doesn’t it? Or when you’ve been targeted by some crazy person.
He likes to talk about the “gun show loophole,” as do many other politicians who are themselves well protected by armed guards. However, the process is the same, whether you go to a show or a gun shop. The only benefit you get from a show is that chance to talk to a variety of sellers and see a wider selection of guns. Well, not all that wide. California has made a business of making a long list of guns illegal. I just found one that would really work well for me, but of course, it’s on the no-no list.
Excise Tax
We now have an excise tax on guns and ammo beginning in July 2024. On top of the high prices of guns generally, you will have to pay an additional 11% tax on guns, ammo or gun parts. The claim is that the money goes to prevent gun violence and promote investigations. But when the state barely goes after its worst criminals, this tax is just a money grab designed to help refill the state’s coffers after Newsom’s spending binge. In one year, we went from a great surplus to a huge deficit. We’re also defaulting on a huge loan to the Feds.
Concealed Carry
The test to obtain a concealed carry permit is very similar to the test cops have to take. Warning: don’t try it with a revolver – it’s almost impossible to get the close grouping in the short time-span. But Newsom hates that he has had to let sheriffs in LA and the Bay Area issue permits, so now, he is creating a laundry list of places where those with permits can’t carry. I’m sure those will be really safe places, right? Note that none of this affects criminals, just those of us who would like to even the odds when faced with crime.
Micro-stamping
Despite the evidence that this doesn’t work and isn’t even feasible, guns must be equipped with the stamp starting in 2028. Of course, criminals won’t have these guns, will they?
The Amendment – the Big Enchilada
Although none of this protects us at all, and in fact, makes us far more vulnerable, Newsom’s power grab is going much further. He wants to add a gun-control amendment to the US Constitution. In our history, we’ve only had one amendment cancel out another one; the 18th which prohibited alcohol sales. And we all know how well that one went.
Newsom won’t tell the truth (just like he lied about the safety stats in CA when debating DeSantis). He claims he only wants to enshrine “sensible” gun laws into the Constitution, but remember, when you hear someone talk about these laws, check how many would actually affect criminals rather than restrict your ability to defend yourself.
He wants you to have to be 21, though you must learn to carry and use a weapon if you enter the military at 18. You can vote at 18 (and apparently, change your sex at 6), but we can’t trust you with a weapon, even if you have been trained. National background checks would be imposed on private transfers, so you can’t pass your gun on to a wife or child without going through a bureaucratic process. He wants a registry. The only purpose of this is to know who has a gun when the government finally decides to disarm everyone. Jews should be particularly concerned; Hitler did this before building the concentration camps. In fact, most dictators impose gun registries to ensure they can keep their power. He also intends to ban the AR-14, which is one of the most popular rifles in America.
Incredible Arrogance
To date, no one has tried to overrule the Bill of Rights, given that this document clearly indicates where the government should not tread. I know – the Left has tried to encroach on freedom of speech, but so far, hasn’t passed an amendment outlawing it. Forty-five of the 50 states would have their laws regarding guns overwritten. Those who live in CA know how arrogant this guy is. These steps continue to underline his ambition and the risk we take in ever letting him have higher office.
The 2nd Amendment is not a second-class right, as he seems to think it is. It is fundamental to our freedom. The words “shall not be infringed” should be regarded as the end of the argument.
Gavin Newsom is the kind of person who would win Survivor – good looking and well-spoken. But he doesn’t belong in office. In such a short time, he has turned California into a hellhole and he isn’t done. Don’t give him the power to do anything to the rest of the country. You’ll regret it forever…and there will be no turning back.
The pols try to undermine the constitution every chance they get and when they’re challenged in court there always seems to be a left leaning jurist to accommodate the suit and rule against the people. They’ll keep getting voted in though won’t they.
Loophole = anytime anyone can get any gun legally
