Some Background
I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016. Living in California, I knew Hillary would win the state and decided to give my vote to Gary Johnson. Ballot access is critical to third parties, and I hoped that this would help the Libertarians retain it in my state.
Looking at the impressive slate of Republicans, I found myself much more attracted to Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. But as they dropped out, I had to look more closely at Trump. He wrote a great book on how to fix America a few years before and I read it carefully, trying to understand the perspective of a career businessman. Time to Get Tough: Making America #1 Again. I had long believed we needed to get away from lawyers and politicians to fix the severe financial issues we faced.
Trump as Candidate
My first reaction to Trump’s well-articulated vitriol was “it’s about time.” For years, Democrats have slung hate on their opponents, called names and basically acted like schoolyard bullies. Republicans are often way too polite, so that even when they come up with a great retort, like so many of Reagans’, it isn’t as effective as the nasty-grams hurled by the Democrats. I enjoyed seeing them try to counter it, especially as he had an amazing gift in “naming” people in ways that stuck. Pocahontas, Sleepy Joe and more; it all worked until he used the same tactics on his own party members. That just gave ammunition to Hillary, who as usual, was poorly armed.
Trump as President
Donald Trump blew me away as President, accomplishing more in four years than many others in eight. His record wasn’t perfect, but few are.
· More jobs and significantly improved employment rates for veterans, minorities and the disabled in part due to encouragement of a record increase in available jobs.
· Income increases for many in the middle class including a reduced tax burden.
· Invested government money to race a CCP virus vaccine to the people and supported independent efforts to make protective equipment and treatments, cutting out the government.
· Eliminated eight regulations for every one new one, reducing costs on all levels, from the individual to the largest companies.
· Unleashed gas and oil production to make us oil-exporters instead of dependent on OPEC.
· Challenging China and making it clear that we weren’t going to tolerate their abuse of us or other partners.
· Found an innovative solution to begin building relationships between Israel and Arab nations, a solution only a businessman would have considered.
And more.
The 2021 Approach
Sadly, the Left has decided that if Trump did it, it has to be reversed quickly, where possible. They probably would have loved to have found a new vaccine so they could dump all the ones the world so much appreciated. As they did this, they began implementing the Far-Left ideas, most of which had never been properly vetted for economic cost/benefit or impact on pretty much everything we care about. But it’s all Trump’s fault.
Shutting down the building of the Keystone pipeline and making inroads in shutting off all of our accessible power options meant gas prices started rising and haven’t stopped. This affects all of us economically, even if we don’t drive much, because all goods and services are now costing a lot more. Despite having one of the best records on improving pollution and carbon emission, it’s never going to be enough, so now, everything is pushed into solar and wind energy, neither of which has the benefits of our traditional sources. Push electric cars? What do they plug into to charge and who pays for that? I can’t imagine people hooking up to a wind turbine to charge. But apparently, Trump’s rhetoric has caused the earth to warm, even as he has been shoved off Twitter.
People aren’t that stupid. They are beginning to remember how good it was under Trump, and how much hope they had for the future. They don’t like the future-destroying bills Congress is passing as fast as they can, spending money that will never actually exist and putting ourselves further in debt to China. The disastrous move on pulling out so rapidly in Afghanistan (even as we probably should never have been there), is putting more American lives at risk and undoing all the good we might have done.
It’s not surprising that they blame Trump. Who else do they have? They might have to look in the mirror and realize that their goals and dreams envision an America almost no one but the Dems want. Let them go back to their ivory towers and universities and stay out of real-world governance.
Let’s show them the door in the 2022 elections.
Partisan liberals are clearly more engaged with their shallow philosophy than with what's best for the country. It's a travesty.
