Gavin Newsom wants to be President. He’s playing the “high road” of pretending not to seek the job in 2024, waiting to see what Biden does. But look at what he does and says to gain more national attention. The problem is that almost anyone who cares can see what he’s done to the residents of California. Extending that to the rest of the country would be a disaster.
However, he would have the backing of many Democrats, for two reasons, despite his failures. 1. Most of the possible challengers are unpopular (Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Saunders). 2. His reality-star presence. Sadly, too many people like to vote for nice-looking people (JFK) and they forget that looking nice doesn’t mean being nice, nor does it mean the person is competent. People – the Presidential election is NOT a reality show. It’s too important for that.
Newsom’s Record
People who’ve spent years in politics have track records we can examine. We should look closely, as these represent how the candidate will act when/if elected. Ignore campaign promises and re-spinning of “accomplishments.” Candidates will polish the apple of their reputation, but keep in mind what’s at stake. You do not want to become California. There’s a reason people are moving out in droves: movers charge a lot to leave the state because they get almost no call to move someone in.
Top failures include:
1. Managing wildfires. Many years ago, Mexico suffered from the same problem. Planned clean-up and controlled burns were among the top solutions implemented to solve the problem. Many years ago, CA had the same strategy, but people who don’t understand fire management got those options thrown out. He did do a little work on 11,399 acres. However, the state is 101,534,080 acres in size. Now, we just fight the many fires instead of preventing them.
2. High Speed Rail. Mentioned in a previous blog (insert link), this billion-dollar boondoggle has no hope of becoming reality, nor is it wanted or needed in the state. Several times, he claims to be ready to stop the ill-advised, public works project, but never does.
3. Coronavirus scandals. Children were locked out of real education for two years to appease the state teachers’ union, (a key contributor), businesses failed and people lost their jobs and any way to survive during a long lockdown. Meanwhile, Newsom’s kids were in private school, the whole family flew out of state to get things like haircuts and, let’s not forget, the maskless French Laundry scandal. Keep in mind that someone that entitled and selfish will perpetrate the same frauds on all of us in order to enrich himself.
4. The Unemployment Department Scandal. Most people who lost their jobs spent months trying to get unemployment claims heard and paid out. Meanwhile, his incompetent EDD group sent out at least $33MM in fraudulent payouts, while leaving legitimate claims unanswered.
5. Businesses flee the state. Due to high taxes, ridiculous regulations, reparations, DIE and more, a large number of businesses have fled, leaving the growing population with few job options.
6. Education. According to statewide test scores released by the California Department of Education, 2/3 of California students failed to meet Math standards and more than half of California students did not meet the state’s English standards.
7. Crime. During Covid, Newsom released thousands of prisoners with little regard for the safety of the rest of us. He, of course, has private security. He’s also stood behind Soros’ DA’s who won’t prosecute crimes, leaving us defenseless and businesses destroyed by the looters. CA is not safe anymore.
8. Energy. What a dismal failure this is? Again, responding to climate change whack-jobs, Newsom caters to them at every juncture, forcing us to rely on the unreliable wind and solar markets. He is trying to gouge oil companies to force lower prices at the pump, but none of this works. He’s trying to push through the elimination of natural gas-using appliances, many of which are cheaper, cleaner and better than their electric counterparts. His policies have led to more frequent blackouts (PG&E does a great job in trying to restore power quickly, but can only do it when they have power to give). He even had to tell electric car drives not to charge their cars during hot summer days. BTW – he IS letting Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant continue to run after promising to shut it down. We’d better hope it keeps running and perhaps, even grow its output. Nuclear is clean energy.
9. Failure to manage the environment, except as dictated to by enviro-whackos. We’ve had huge increases in population, but despite taxes aimed at water storage, none has been built. This year, we have torrential floods, but again, despite high taxes, our infrastructure is cr-p. With so many people flooded out and farmer’s crops ruined, people were cheered by a promise of $42MM in relief. He claimed the funds were from the United
Way, paid through the USDA. But in fact, the money was unused Covid relief funds (courtesy of Donald Trump). Worse, those hardest hit are getting a pittance. In Pajaro, a largely Hispanic community, most are getting around $600. That won’t do anything. The $42MM? Just a mirage.
10. Homelessness. We have the highest homeless population despite spending more than $20BB of our money. It gets worse each day, leading charities to try to force a “right to housing” initiative, which would only cost even more.
And let’s not even talk about our being a “sanctuary state.” Illegals are privileged over tax-paying citizens. We’re also a sanctuary state for abortions, funded again by us taxpayers.
Sound Good?
The only way to ensure that those in other states don’t suffer as we do is to end his political career. Share this blog with people you know who may think Newsom isn’t the nuisance we know him to be. Share it with other Californians, who may not realize how much his governorship has cost us. It’s time he retires to a real job and find out how his policies have hurt the people he claims to care about.
Same problem with all elections. Free stuff buys votes.
I really believe the democratic voters do so because in spite of all the negative results and crises you’ve enumerated, they still cling to the hope that democrats will continue to give them “free” stuff. And, they’re right. All the bad doesn’t offset greed. Of course, you can argue that the entitlements really don’t offset the negatives but most don’t see it.
