How the Left Manipulates Language and Facts to Suit Their Narrative

More people are seeking to protect themselves from the increasing violence and they understand that guns are the right answer.  You don’t want to take the risk of being closer to the perp than you need to be.  Guns allow you to control the situation, assuming you’ve taken the necessary steps to get training and practice.  But the Left has stepped up their demand to disarm the vulnerable while continuing to expect armed protection for themselves.  In doing this, they manufacture a story that should be challenged and then ignored.

Assault Weapons

“In criminal law, the attempted battery type of assault requires a Specific Intent to commit battery. An intent to frighten will not suffice for this form of assault.”

There is no such thing as an assault rifle or assault weapon.  Go into any gun store and request one.  This is a made-up term designed to imply the inherent danger of a gun.  But just like a fork, a bat, a frying pan or a glass bottle, guns are harmless as long as they aren’t picked up and used to harm someone.  (Sorry, Alec Baldwin.  Guns do not fire themselves.)  A new term applied to “scarier looking weapons” is “weapon of war.”  This implies that only the military should have them, but from the beginning years of gun ownership, both out military and armed citizens availed themselves of the best and most effective weapons they could find.  In fact, the AR-15 is not used by the military, so Beto O’Rourke loses his justification to “hell, yes, I’m going to take your weapons.”

We Need More Laws

1.   There are more than 20,000 gun laws on the books.  We probably need fewer and someone should look at what is there to see which of them make sense.

2.   Criminals are not deterred by laws.  Only good citizens are.  Most of the proposed laws only impact those who wish to protect themselves or avail themselves of hunting opportunities.  And sadly, given the gun control laws we do have, many good people are forced to break laws simply by owning and carrying their weapons.

3.   Criminals rarely buy guns at gun shows and stores.  Every place I’ve been to follows the laws on waiting periods and background checks.  Making it harder for a good person to buy a gun does not impact crime.  But it does mean that a woman who is being actively threatened may be injured or killed before the waiting period expires.

4.   Politicians and celebrities have no difficulty getting weapons and concealed carry permits.  They also can avail themselves of armed protection, often at the expense of the taxpayer.  Perhaps those who claim that regular people don’t need guns should have to live without gun protection themselves.  I believe Cori Bush needs protection far less than the many women who live in dangerous neighborhoods.

Guns Don’t Protect You

This is true only if you follow the Left’s guidance and have your unloaded weapon locked in a gun safe.  From gunfacts.info, the following data points have been verified.

• Guns prevent an estimated 2.5 million crimes a year, or 6,849 every day. Most often, the gun is never fired, and no blood (including the criminal’s) is shed.

• Every year, 400,000 life-threatening violent crimes are prevented using firearms.

• 60 percent of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they knew the victim was armed. Forty percent of convicted felons admitted that they avoided committing crimes when they thought the victim might be armed. 

• Felons report that they avoid entering houses where people are at home because they fear being shot.

• Of the estimated 480 million civilian-owned guns, fewer than 1 percent are used in the commission of a crime.

In their research, even the CDC estimates that the lawful use of guns to prevent crime is even higher. 

Their Real Agenda

Just like totalitarian governments from the past and present, disarmament of good citizens is always required to ensure they can maintain their power base.  The 2nd Amendment, while allowing people to protect themselves and hunt, was primarily ratified to ensure that should a government overreach again, the citizens would have the right and ability to remove that government.  Even with an AR-15, that would be difficult today, as the government has far more lethal weapons at their disposal.

Still, if the Left succeeds in creating a system whereby they can ensure electoral success forever, not only armed citizens, but the police and military would likely rise up against them.  That’s why they are so adamant that we need to be disarmed.  We can’t let them!
