We already knew that this recent flood of immigrants is costing us billions, and they are still on the dole. From Oct ’22 to Sept ’23, the apprehensions were 3.2MM which doesn’t include the getaways. So, what does this mean for healthcare?
Emergencies
Many migrants get injured sneaking into the country. We’ve had to transport the worst off by helicopters to trauma centers, at an average cost of $30,000. (Look it up; it is that high). Even an ambulance is pricey and they rarely are moved that way. Then, you add in the cost of medical staff, testing, hospital rooms and medication. You and I pay for that. But who pays our medical bills?
The government uses the excuse of “patient privacy” when illegals are smuggled in and treated ahead of citizens. There is a “bubble of protection” around them. There is no transparency.
Regular Care
Illegals generally use the ER for all their healthcare needs, which is the costliest way to go. Newsom is now providing them MediCal, which is the state’s version of Medicaid, adding substantially to the costs. But as many are still used to using the ER, the cost will be very high. And they’ll use more care because they CAN.
Try to get into the ER or even access medical care. The China virus showed us we don’t have enough medical staff or facilities for our own residents. The more illegals arriving, the bigger the strain, but no one is advancing a solution. Prepare to wait much longer for care. And in some blue states, it is likely they will be moved to the front of the line, as they seem to be in every other instance. Just talk to veterans, who have been shoved out of their shelters and care facilities to make room for people who don’t belong here, haven’t paid their dues and shouldn’t receive anything but the back of our hand.
Add to this that they demand translators. If it were just Spanish, that would be bad enough but our wide-open borders now admit people from many countries. Imagine the expense of all these translators.
Disease
Illegals frequently bring in diseases long-foreign to our shores. We’re seeing a huge increase in tuberculosis (TB) which often ties up hospital beds for months. In Southern California, the incidence of TB is now skyrocketing. Hospitals are also seeing venereal disease on the rise. We’re likely to see even more exotic and nasty bugs hit us, as people come from countries where, unlike the US, they haven’t eradicated most infectious diseases.
Actual Costs
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that the total federal medical costs for illegal immigration was more than $23.1BB in 2022; in California, it is about $22.8BB for medical, education, law enforcement, criminal justice, welfare and other items. Total cost of illegal immigration is $183BB annually, which has increased more than 35.7% since 2017. According to FAIR, these costs include the contributions illegals make to our economy. That just doesn’t pencil out.
Taxes are on the rise all the time and we simply can’t afford this burden. These are not good, hardworking people who quickly adapt to our country, learn the language and contribute mightily to our economy.
Veterans Speak Out
In my opinion, we’ve never done quite enough for those brave men and women who risk their lives for our country. That is a debt we can never repay. Veterans report that their appointments have been pushed back months because of the crisis at the border.
Many believe that they are no longer valued, as they can’t be counted on to vote for Democrats. Instead, they believe the D’s expect that illegals will vote for them (and I’ve seen it), so they are prioritizing them over everyone else.
Vote Them Out
Every Democrat favoring open borders should be summarily voted out at the next possible opportunity, if you can’t impeach them or call for a vote to expel. While legal immigration has done amazing things for this country, illegal immigration has just made us poorer and less safe.
Give them nothing and they’ll stop coming. In fact, if you really shut the tap off, many of those who are here will leave, except for the few who have actually built something and contribute far more than they cost us. This is a land of opportunity, but it is also a free country, which means we owe these people nothing. Time to act on this!
