Everyone proclaims their horror at the attack by Hamas. Clearly, this wasn’t simply a war; Hamas went after everyone – women, children, Israelis, civilians…they didn’t care who they killed, maimed or kidnapped. In my mind, this was an act of terrorism.
However, the Left keeps talking about how Israel should be careful in their response. It happens every time Palestinians try to destroy Israel. Any other country is encouraged to go boldly after an invader. Simply look at the response to Russia invading Ukraine. But every time, in my memory, Israel is supposed to “turn the other check.” The leaders are told to remember that not every Palestinian is guilty.
Why is Israel different? What makes their plight so unimportant that they are supposed to act cautiously and not hurt the aggressors? When we look at the tragedy in the Middle East, we have to remember some very key points.
1. Palestinians do not want a two-state solution with peace. It’s been offered many times over the years and has always been rejected. They claim they want this, but they don’t.
2. Most, even those who aren’t terrorists want Israel to cease to exist, including ensuring that every Israeli is dead. This is a fact.
3. Israel has bent over backwards, allowing many Palestinians to live and work within Israel’s borders. They permit transit, at great risk to their citizenry.
4. Israel has always meted out a measured attack and mostly relied on its Iron Dome to defuse missiles. However, in this case, Hamas did a lot to disable the dome.
To desire the extermination of a people is no different than what Hitler wanted for the Jews. Our response was not measured. World War II involved killing a lot of Germans without regard for whether they were Nazis or not. How is this situation different?
Some might say that Partition by the UN was unacceptable. That what was Palestine at the time should have remained theirs. However, historically, Jews have lived in that area for centuries as well as Arabs. What the UN did cannot be undone and was approved and applauded by most countries, trying to right a challenging situation.
We also have to consider two facts, which most are not considering. Almost no Arab country would welcome Palestinians to live there. Part of it is fact two, where they have done nothing with their country. Looking at the same piece of desert land, Israelis, through diligent work have created farmlands, wineries, homes, cities, and businesses. They are world-renowned for their medical and scientific advances. Their IT industry is superb. If you were to look at the two populations, which one has provided value to its citizens and to the world, and which one has only sowed discontent and hate?
The right answer is to not only support Israel in whatever action they wish to take, but to support them financially and with weapons. They are trusted allies of the US; Palestinians are not. The invasion is always started by Arabs, not by the Jewish citizens.
Ignore the Squad who hate Jews. Ignore the many Lefties who take funding from Jews in our country while secretly despising them. It’s time to take responsibility as a friend of Israel and fully support them in doing real damage in response. In war, you can’t always ensure the safety of civilians, but Israel has given them time to leave the Gaza Strip. No one else has ever done such a thing to my knowledge.
They deserve credit for their compassion and decency. But they also deserve our support for the retaliation to come. See how your politicians fare on this one and vote accordingly. It’s time to choose.
Very well stated!
Great article. It is essential that Israel destroy Hamas. Their barbarism is vile, hateful and not of this millennium. Their murderous violence, religious beliefs and lack of reason has put them “on the other side” of civilization. In other words Hamas is not civilized. It is futile to negotiate, attempt to appease, or reason with them. For those that wish to continue to support Hamas, I say those actions are evil.
