Lockdowns were first forecast to be short-term, to “flatten the curve.” They weren’t based on any particular study proving efficacy. Rather than being scientific, the decision was mostly panic-based. As time went on, and the impact of lockdowns became an economic problem for many people, questions and concerns were raised. In October, 2020, a group of scientists penned the Great Barrington Declaration. Here are some quotes from it.
“The Great Barrington Declaration – As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.
Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people. Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.
The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.
Adopting measures to protect the vulnerable should be the central aim of public health responses to COVID-19. By way of example, nursing homes should use staff with acquired immunity and perform frequent testing of other staff and all visitors. Staff rotation should be minimized. Retired people living at home should have groceries and other essentials delivered to their home. When possible, they should meet family members outside rather than inside. A comprehensive and detailed list of measures, including approaches to multi-generational households, can be implemented, and is well within the scope and capability of public health professionals. “
Dr. Francis Collins, the head of the NIH, was the first to attack this declaration. He called for a “quick and devastating takedown of these premises,” which, from his position, represented the government weighing in against a significant population of doctors and scientists. As a note, over 935,000 people have signed the document, despite the attempts to “cancel” knowledge of it.
The Impact of Full Lockdowns
The CCP decided on a zero-Covid policy early on. They imposed it through their social credit system, where people who violated their harsh provisions found they couldn’t travel, couldn’t spend money and more. Though we get very little accurate news from China, recent news revealed that many have died, not from Covid, but from starvation as they are unable to get food. Others died in a fire where they were unable to flee, as their doors were welded shut to keep them in. Given the news blackout, one can assume that the real numbers are much higher. Being locked in also meant potentially going broke, as only some people can work from home.
Suddenly, without a coherent plan, Xi abandoned the plan. We don’t know if he ever achieved zero-Covid, though it is unlikely. Since then, reports from trusted sources estimate that the rate of infection exceeds 50% and, in some places, such as Beijing, as high as 80%.
These cases are often severe, requiring hospitalization. Given the regulations, I would expect nearly everyone had been vaccinated. We also have treatments. Why is the problem so serious? Part of it is the obvious; our immune systems need to be regularly challenged to function properly. Isolating people for years ensures that they have no exposure, similar to the “boy in the bubble” treatment for people whose immunity is non-existent. Faced with almost any virus or bacteria, the person who hasn’t exercised their immune system is likely not only to be infected, but also to be far sicker. Their bodies can’t challenger the invader.
We already know that people who are compromised by other diseases are hit harder with Covid. If you can’t leave the house, you are more likely to see any of these conditions worsened. Could diabetics get their drugs? Were people with cancer able to be checked and treated? Zero-Covid was basically a way to make everyone more vulnerable to any condition and sicker from the ones they already had.
The Impact of the Lockdowns We Had
While no other country had the ability to control its population like China did, the impact of our lockdowns is still being felt. People lost their homes and landlords went bankrupt. Many jobs were lost, only slowly coming back. For a while, it was difficult to get any medical care at all. Only emergency and serious conditions could be treated. But who decides who is eligible? Too many ignored symptoms that could have been treated and ended up much sicker than they would have been.
The economic and health impacts of lockdowns is now revealed. Even if you didn’t care about economics, the death toll in China is only going to increase. We’ve never taken this approach to a health challenge. Bad flu years are simply met with recommendations to get the flu vaccine and stay away from people if you are vulnerable. We give people choice and freedom. That’s how most of the world operates.
Just So No
Even if you didn’t suffer in any way from the lockdowns here, you probably know people who did. We need to have the choice of how we want to live and government mandates have no place here. Our so-called scientific experts were wrong on nearly everything. We can’t trust them in the future.
Not only should you be civilly disobedient in any future lockdown, you also have to vote to ensure that a social credit system is never implemented in the US. You also have to make sure that Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) never is implemented, as it gives the government a way to cut you off from your money (and your freedom).
There can’t be anything more important than to protect ourselves from our government now. Vote accordingly.
