The Democrats are now having a conversation about what went wrong last Tuesday. How could they exert their will to take down a sitting President, while letting him lame-duck his way to January, while spending $1BB on Harris’ campaign, only to lose badly? That’s one billion dollars of rich people’s money and fervent abortion till birth supporters who probably couldn’t afford their donations.
A few weeks prior to Election Day, I floated the idea that the actual powers behind the throne—those who pull the levers of the Bidens, the Harris’ and even the Obamas—had decided that Harris’ horrible performance through her short campaign had turned her into a liability. If they really liked her all that much, wouldn’t they have turfed Biden out of his Presidency sooner? As I had stated in a prior blog, just imagine her word salad when in heated discussions with Putin, Xi and other world leaders. If this is true, they made sure not to tip the scales by delivering thousands of ballots to key states to ensure her victory. After all, should she have the appallingly bad term one might expect, this would doom their chances in four years. I have no way of knowing if my idea is what happened, but even in my wildest dreams, I didn’t expect the results we had. Even in California, we turned over a bunch of counties. Reliably-Blue California isn’t anymore.
The Mistakes
While fluffy talking heads like Morning Joe and the View were devastated by the results, acting as if the most important person in their life had just been given six months to live (and that person wasn’t Biden), the smart minds that actually govern realized something important. It’s not clear yet whether they will change enough to match the views of moderate Democrats, but some profound realizations have come to light, ones I’ve heard Democrats actually speak to.
1. We have to start listening to the voters. Clearly, we misjudged what mattered to them. (Yes, since they NEVER listen to voters)
2. Except for the anointed ones in power, no one actually believed that Trump was Hitler, had committed the crimes their show-trials convicted him for, was going to abolish abortion throughout the country, was going to establish camps to put his enemies in and was going to end Medicare and Social Security. (Actually, Obama cut a ton of money from Medicare to fund Obamacare.)
3. Most people hate the open border, resent the tax money spent on illegals and want them gone. Our previous, generous policy of refugee entrance was tortured to allow the millions in. And for those really looking at the situation, where are the hundreds of thousands of kids who came over? While the Left would deny it, most of them are either being white-slaved or otherwise acting as slaves somewhere.
4. The economy sucks. And it’s Biden’s fault. It was recovering at the end of Trump’s term. By making gas prices the highest in history, which affects the cost of everything, doubling down on EVs and other unscientific ways to combat “climate change,” whatever that is, he brought our economy to its knees. Most of the employment number increases are for government jobs, which just cost us money.
Democrats largely believed the lies, but the economy was the thing that brought many around to vote Red. It couldn’t have been clearer. At the same time, we all saw the self-appointed elites enjoying a standard of living we would never see, protected by armed guards while they wanted us to be victims of the criminals they refused to punish.
The Response
First, they blamed Harris for running a short, but lackluster campaign. Then, they blamed Biden for letting her run. I’m not sure how she managed to force her way in, but it was probably the race-baiters in the party who believed that between her race and sex, she was a shoe-in, even if she cawed and babbled her way to Election Day.
A lot of them are calling for a full party reckoning, even as the hardcore Lefties looked for excuses and ways to exonerate their radical agenda. Why pick Walz? They needed Pennsylvania and had a reasonable VP pick in Shapiro. Why did they continue with the open border, while denying it, when whole states became alarmed and angry? Enforcement should begin now. With a bad economy, traditional Left voters watched as illegals were given lavish handouts while they found it harder to access help. Veterans were pushed down the list while illegals came first.
“This is a realignment. Our country has moved to the right. It’s not center left. Our party needs to grapple with it and find its footing in that world,” said Rep. Nikki Budzinski, an Illinois Democrat who won by double digits in a purple district after campaigning heavily on the economy. “It takes time. Finger-pointing is not worth it at all. This was a message. The voters were speaking to us. It would be to our detriment to not hear it.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., put out a statement blasting "big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party.
It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them," he said Wednesday. "First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right."
Many now realize that the show trials made Trump into an urban hero. Three assassination attempts, the first so clearly botched it looks deliberate, made him a martyr. Biden really blew it with the “garbage” crack, a term the Right happily picked up on. Garbage Halloween costumes became wildly popular.
People voted for Biden the first time because he posed as a moderate, but then, his office was taken over by radicals and he became the puppet to their demands. I also believe there was a ton of fraud, given the numbers he commanded. And of course, there are all the things that weren’t revealed, such as the truth about Hunter’s laptop, Biden’s dementia and that almost everything blamed on Trump was a conspiracy on the Left to destroy him.
Sadly, many just think it’s a matter of too many old Dems still in power. Does this mean pushing forward incompetent socialists like AOC? Then, they’re still going to get it wrong. Corie Bush and Jamal Bowman got their butts kicked in the primary. Letting the Squad control things, even as they are not old guard, would be a dire mistake.
Of course, they had to blame whiteness too. One Harris aide called for more diversity among decision-makers, pointing to a far too-white leadership makeup of Harris’ campaign and Biden’s former campaign. The campaign did have campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez and former Rep. Cedric Richmond as a senior adviser, among others.
I don’t believe the Dems get it yet. They have a little of the problem figured out, but until they actually talk to people in “flyover country,” as they call it, they won’t get it right. And that’s probably a good thing.
As you noted, not only do they not get it but it appears they’re in the throes of seeing how they can sabotage and undermine the Trump presidency. Is this how you win back the American people? As always, I blame the MSM for a lot of the divisiveness and a public that refuses to fact check the utter nonsense they spew.
The progressives will never get it. The “elites” are puritans and will always admonish those of us with a different political view. The next 4 years may be difficult, since those who have been suffering TDS even while Biden was in office will continue to be deranged.
