But Apparently, Only for Abortion
The Left’s contradictory positions always amuses me. Death for a viable, innocent fetus but not for a convicted murderer. Armed protection for Hollywood and politicians, but not for the single, working mother returning home to the ghetto. Freedom of religion, including no-go zones and other protections for Muslims, but not for the majority Christian population. There are endless examples of their crazy inconsistency, but this serves to show the point.
Covid “Rules”
This phrase is bandied about constantly, even to justify abortion-on-demand until the day of delivery. But when you want to talk about the same set of “rights” for any other issue, Lefties refuse to acknowledge that this should be so.
During the China virus epidemic, mandates to close businesses (carefully selected to protect major corporate favorites), physical distancing and masking mandates were just fine with them. When vaccines became available, a vaccine mandate was not a bridge too far. People who had already had Covid were under the same rules even though history says that having an illness provides better protection against that illness than any vaccine. The Left used fear to get their way, ignoring the rights of those who felt safe and wanted to shop/pray/exercise where they wanted to and/or simply keep their businesses open. The vaccine passport was a frightening thing. The idea that you must do what they say to exercise your freedom felt like a real violation.
The promise was that the vaccine would free us, until it didn’t. Fortunately, fear subsided as the symptoms became less serious. People began to ignore/protest the restrictions and things became better. However, some pundits, like Bill Gates, claim that this is just the beginning. More, perhaps more serious infections could be on the way. One wonders—is this simply an observation or does he know something? After all, we didn’t shut down the Wuhan Virology lab.
The right to refuse medical treatment is core to our way of life.
Gun Control
Fundamental to our rights is the ability to defend yourself, your loved ones and your property. Some states understand that; an increasing number are voting in Constitutional Carry, which means that anyone can carry a weapon without the permission of the police, sheriff or a politician. However, the Left doesn’t want regular people to own/carry a gun. These same people love to have armed protection themselves, but don’t understand that not only are they much less likely to be attacked than the poorest among us. They are also able to afford protection and, in many cases, are given this protection courtesy of us taxpayers.
Yet, if they were able to, they would say, “hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15s…” as Beta O’Rourke famously cried out. I’m sure he is well protected. Nothing is more fundamental to our rights than the right to protect ourselves from serious injury or death. And since our hard work has made us able to pay for a home and various other property, we should be able to protect that as well.
The millions of the new gun owners in the past few years understand that, in this increasingly dangerous country, where rogue DAs let out criminals as fast as they come in. We need guns to protect ourselves. As they say, “when seconds count, the police are minutes away.” And thanks to “Defund the Police,” there are fewer police when you need them.
Other Mandates
I remember being unable to have a lovely shower, a toilet that flushes thoroughly and light bulbs that work (the newest ones do, but the twisty ones were awful), because bureaucrats told me what I was going to like. Politicians keep wanting to tell you what you can eat or drink. I’ve recently heard talk of trying to get us to eat bugs. Yuck!
And then we get to choosing cars. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have hours during the day to wait for electric car charging, nor do I have the money to buy electrics or hybrids. But we’re going to be forced to do so soon, even as data keeps pouring in how the materials needed to build the car damage the planet. And no one in California truly believes we’ll have enough electricity to power them.
Time to Say NO
Conservatives need to adopt the My Body, My Choice phrase for ourselves. We need to make it clear that we choose what medicines go into our bodies, how much safety we feel we need in a pandemic and to what ends we will go to protect ourselves. We need to be able to protect ourselves with weapons, including guns. And we need to have the choice to buy the items willing sellers offer us, even as the braindead politicians continue to try to control us by mandating even more stupidity.
I’m pretty sure none of these rules apply to any of them. I know several politicians who have carry permits; the same who ensure we can’t get them. Throw their words back in their faces and make it clear.
