Is anyone surprised at the lack of consequences for the protestors who support Hamas? In some cases, suspensions and at least once, arrests have occurred (Stanford), but mostly, their acts are ignored, even when their actions go well beyond a “mostly peaceful protest.” Yes, some have been charged, but it’s a minority of those who have blocked streets keeping commuters from their jobs, terrorized Jewish students, covered buildings with graffiti and vandalized areas. All this from students who have no idea what Hamas is, who are ignoring Hamas they did on October 7th and who clearly are antisemitic, which is racism.
So far, this hasn’t been as destructive as the wide-ranging BLM riots, but the result to our civil society and tolerance of differences has been serious. BLM riots cost over $2BB in damages and more than 700 peace officers were injured. There were deaths as well. And for anyone living in a city infiltrated with violent agitators, too much of the cities involved became no-go-zones. People were harassed, even if they lived in the area. Still, the MSM continued to call this “mostly peaceful protesting.”
In contrast, those involved in what was actually a mostly peaceful protest – January 6 – were jailed without trial. The trials that have ensued overcharged each person. One person was killed – Ashley Babbitt – and her “crime” was coming into the Capitol building. Hardly an act warranting a death penalty. There is a claim of $1.5MM damage to the Capitol, but that number seems suspect, given the reports of what protestors actually did. Hundreds of prison sentences have come down, only after 450 people had been held without bail for years without a trial.
President Trump offered National Guard support which Nancy Pelosi refused. He was concerned, as many millions still believe the election was stolen. However, the protests began while he was still speaking, miles away from the Capitol. So, it is clear that those who came to hear him weren’t there to protest. Some may have joined the crowds later, but the vast majority weren’t doing anything but protesting.
The Differences
If you’re on the Left, you get to tear down statues, hurt and kill people, block traffic, damage property, etc., mostly with impunity. We’re supposed to believe that your cause justifies your actions. If you’re on the Left, Soros and others will pay protestors to come to cities with violence and vandalism in mind. The media will be kind to you and cameras will shy away from anything that might make the public mad at the rioters. Actions will be called “mostly peaceful,” a description that those witnessing the activities would challenge. There will be sympathy for the rioters, no matter what they do, pushed by Lefty politicians and the media. And the consequences will be minor. Only Stanford appeared to take the kind of action warranted by the behavior.
If you’re on the Left, the murder of a single person they like will be considered far worse than the 1200 deaths, maiming and the kidnapping of 240 people. The perpetrators will be lauded and supported. Their barbarism will be forgotten. And yet, the actions of the IDF will be attacked, even as they have been more humane than any other country who is at war. It’s okay to condemn Israel and to ignore the atrocities of Hamas, if you believe the Left.
If you are on the Right, you can forget about understanding, leniency or tolerance. The least offense is harshly punished. I’ve read about too many Congressmen who have committed blatant crimes, but haven’t even been censured. But let a Republican do something like have sex with someone other than his wife and it’s a capital offense.
It’s odd that the idiot college students and Leftist politicians seem to love Hamas so much. Israel is pretty left-wing itself. And yet, it is the whipping boy. We’re supposed to feel sorry for the Palestinians and keep sending them food and medicine, even as it has been publicized that Hamas has stolen nearly all of this aid.
Justice Should Be Blind
We need to get back to a time when your political preference or race doesn’t cut you slack in the court system. Everyone should be held to the same standard. Nowhere has our current double-standard been clearer than in the Trump trials, where prosecutors have gotten elected by promising to “get Trump.” And yet, the “crimes” which he is accused of are: a. not crimes and b. actions tolerated if committed by Democrats and c. actions Democrats have been guilty of.
It's time to clear out the rogue prosecutors, punishing those who have two standards of justice and empower the police to act against violent protestors. And if you’re antisemitic, perhaps you should be treated just as a racist would be. You will lose your college grants or loans and perhaps be expelled. We all deserve to be treated with respect.
