The Back Story
For years, Democrats have pushed to increase illegal immigration, coming up with many schemes, such as family reunification, encouragement of minors to come alone, ways to apply for amnesty and more. They’re not concerned with legal immigration; companies vie for the small number of H1B visas. Instead, they seem bent on bringing in the sickest, poorest, most helpless people who will probably spend most of their life sucking off the government (aka taxpayers) teat.
Nearly every other country reserves the right to select those who wish to stay for a longer period, become legal immigrants and even aspire to citizenship. US citizenship is a rare gift, desired by many. Admittance to our country should only go to those who can add value, excepting a limited number of refugees who truly have reason to fear for their lives in their home country. Economic refugees are not a value to us.
The Democrat Rational
Despite these politicians being our employees—we pay their salaries—they don’t care about the needs, values or expectations of their citizen-bosses. Instead, they thirst only for power, which they expect to achieve by winning over a new base of voters. Don’t believe illegals vote? While most do not, you can see plenty of illegal voting in my home state of California. And we’ve been put on notice of the intent to either make all illegals citizens quickly or to allow illegals to vote.
Democrats expect new voters to listen to their direction and accept any plan. Of course, many are poor and will be happy to vote themselves more goodies. Buried in the thousands of pages of bills are many items no one would like, but who reads them? Who even knows what gets passed until it affects us?
The Cost to Us
We’ve heard the lie that illegals don’t cost money as they don’t qualify for benefits. However, they do use “emergency” health services, schools, roads, police and fire services and more. The latest FAIR study shows an annual cost to taxpayers of $134 billion, which probably doesn’t include the costs of welfare to families who’ve chosen to have anchor babies.[1] That’s a total that makes taxes higher on all of us and particularly disadvantages the poor and lower middle class, who struggle to move up.
Illegals also bring down the wage numbers, when they work. Again, those Americans most harmed are those at the lower rungs of the job ladder. The most recent crowd shoving their way into the country have no incentive to work when everything is free. Why should they learn English, learn a skill or make a contribution?
But it Gets Worse
What you didn’t know is that none of these illegals are being tested for any diseases, even the CCP virus. Which means that, most likely, the delta variant is not the fault of citizens gathering, but instead, illegals bringing in diseases. There’s also a huge increase in RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) which is very dangerous in children. We usually see some uptick in the winter months, but now there are huge increases in cases fatal to children.
The Right Approach
The US needs to get back to selecting highly qualified, legal immigrants in greater numbers than we currently do, while making it extremely difficult for illegals to survive. Our favorable economic climate and gracious generosity are a magnet for people who struggle in their own countries, but what benefit are they to the citizens of the United States? Use e-Verify for jobs and housing, so that anyone trying to come in without going through our process will find it difficult to survive, discouraging further attempts.
And let’s modify birthright citizenship, which was originally added to the Constitution to rectify the importation of slaves without giving them equal access to American rights. If a parent is not here legally, the baby does not get citizenship. That would solve the problem neatly and forever.
