Crime 1
The first crime was the irresponsible and reckless gain-of-function research on dangerous viruses. “Gain-of-function (GOF) research involves experimentation that aims or is expected to (and/or, perhaps, actually does) increase the transmissibility and/or virulence of pathogens. Such research, when conducted by responsible scientists, usually aims to improve understanding of disease-causing agents, their interaction with human hosts, and/or their potential to cause pandemics.”[1] While the intention may be good, all viruses keep mutating and you can’t control the outcome when you mess with a virus to make it infectious to humans. For this reason, doctors encouraged President Obama to ban this work in the US. China knows that most countries have banned it as being too dangerous, but they didn’t care. Who knows what else they may have created?
Crime 2
At first blush, the release of Covid-19 from the Wuhan Institute of Virology appears to be a signal crime on the part of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), but this is a mistake. Accidents happen everywhere. The second crime of the CCP was to withhold the information from the international community for many months, thus ensuring that what started out as a local problem became a pandemic. They could have locked China down and let people know, sharing the viral data so that vaccines could have been quickly produced. As previously noted, in this blog, it only took four days for Pfizer and Moderna to create a vaccine. Deaths and even serious illness would have been significantly avoided had the CCP been forthcoming with the information in a timely manner.
Crime 3
The third crime involved the cover story, first blaming infection from pangolins, then bats. The latter animal was not available in the wet market, and in fact, Shi Zhengli, the bat-lady scientist, sourced her bats from many miles away. By misleading the public, blame could be avoided. People actually believed that a wet market caused all the problems.
An Alternate Reality
If the international community had been informed in a timely and accurate manner, everything would be different today. Lives and health would not have been lost. People’s livelihoods and lifestyles would have been preserved. And governments would not have had the excuse to overreach and dictate to their populations, affecting everyone in every way.
Appropriate Punishment for these Crimes
Everyone will have an opinion in this area, but my goal is to try to focus the action on the Party, and not on the people. The Chinese people had nothing to do with these choices and actions.
1. Remove China from all aspects of the UN, especially WHO, until such time as an alternative party comes to power. The same should be true with all alliances across countries.
2. End diplomatic relations with the CCP.
3. Stop repayment of all national debt across affected countries, again, until a new government is formed.
4. Demand all research facilities be subject to international oversite and regulation. Only ethical research can be undertaken.
5. Consider offering asylum to Hong Kong citizens.
6. Consider seizing all property in affected countries owned by the CCP and/or their agents.
A strong stance by a large number of key powers would force China to stop what is clearly an economic war waged against all of us. They know they can’t win a military war and instead, decided to exploit the “accident” to achieve their goal of becoming the dominant nation on the world stage. No matter what, they should not be allowed to achieve this goal.
