The Basics
We’ve always been told that “this election is the most important in our history.” More often, recent elections have had major consequences, so it is important not only to do the research, but to vote promptly, without confusing the poll workers with stray marks, comments or candidates that aren’t officially approved alternates. However, if you make a confusing choice, please do write in clearly what you meant; just learned from a poll worker that they appreciate that. Feel free to skip a particular role or initiative if you a. don’t know enough to vote intelligently, or b. don’t actually care all that much. But if you do vote on someone or something, read up on it. Not just the paragraph highlighting the issue. Go deeper. In Blue states, you’ll find that the title and lead paragraph are designed to grab your vote, when their intentions are not what you could support. Think long-term and not just about your immediate interests. How will this affect you in retirement? Impact your children? Limit your ability to leave money as you choose? Cost you more than they want to admit to?
Elections Have Consequences
The most critical thing to consider when selecting which candidate you want to vote for is what they have done and said in the past. What they say now is too often carefully designed to get them elected. It may have nothing to do with how they will act when they clinch the office. If you look at past elections, you’ll see how futile it is to rely only on campaign speeches and friendly interviews. That’s not always the truth.
Also, ignore their personal attributes except where it comes to lying. If you study history, you’ll find that a fairly high number of our Presidents cheated on their spouses, had deplorable personal habits and more. None of that matters any more than it matters if they are attractive. In 1st grade, we had a school election about Kennedy vs. Nixon. We all picked Kennedy; good looking and had kids our age. Sadly, it turns out many adults vote this way, which is the only possible explanation for Gavin Newsom.
While it may seem that marital infidelity translates to other transgressions, it doesn’t have to. Many people felt Bill Clinton was principled and largely did what he said he would do. I’m sure Hillary wasn’t all that happy, but the personal lives of candidates matter less than what they have proven they stand for. Vote for someone who values what you value, has succeeded in things you want to see happen and who, ideally, isn’t looking to enrich themselves in the office. I’m always amazed that doctors become politicians; surely they can make more money as a doctor. This shows integrity and their commitment to making a bigger difference.
There are no perfect people in this election (or, any). We have what we have. But there is a clear way to sort it out.
Trump vs. Harris
Have you wondered why you haven’t heard clear policies and principles in the few interviews Harris is willing to do? Why is she rarely willing to talk to someone who isn’t already “in the tank” for the Left?” If you look at her track record, you’ll see. Pulling on a friendly pup costume doesn’t transform her into a person who will build policy on what is best for our citizens and our future. She really only cares about power and herself (and money).
Trump, on the other hand, may be seen by some as having some deplorable behaviors, but what he has done through his career and his presidency was focused on Americans and our future. Sure, he made a few mistakes, but it was no Jimmy Carter reign. He gains absolutely nothing by becoming President. In fact, he has probably lost a lot of money given the strictures on being a candidate and the cost of running.
He told us what he planned to do in his election run the first time. Then, he executed on it. Perhaps Melania can’t trust him as a marital partner, but he has given us no reason not to trust that he plans to do the things he said. And they’re popular. If they weren’t, Harris wouldn’t keep pretending that some of his plans are her ideas. Isn’t that a little suspicious?
Harris is a hard-core, extreme Lefty. She both claims to have been in on every Biden decision, but then follows with the claim that she couldn’t do what she wanted to do, and what she will do, because she was only Vice President. Can’t have it both ways. Biden was so impaired for much of his term that she basically could have been running the country. If you like the costly Biden years, here’s a chance to have more of them, running many people further in debt, making hard choices as inflation robs them.
I might find Harris a perfectly friendly person to hang with, and Trump an absolute train-wreck at a dinner party. We have no way of knowing. But the vote couldn’t be clearer. If you liked the Biden years, get ready for four more years that will be even worse. If you liked the Trump years, or even, perhaps, the Reagan years, vote for Trump, even if you have to hold your nose. You, your family, the American people and the country will be better for it.
I know that politics is an ugly game but I don’t think I’ve ever seen as much outright lying in political ads as I’ve seen in this one. Totally untrue statements and alleged “facts” that aren’t even skewed truths but just blatant lies. I feel like I’m in middle school listening to children arguing. The lack of integrity is more disappointing than angering.
