Donald Trump was not my first choice in the 2016 primary; I thought other candidates articulated a better strategy. Living in California, my vote doesn’t really matter, so I gave it to the Libertarian candidate. However, I did vote for him in 2020, seeing that he had accomplished so much more than any Republican in the past few years. Trump had a clear vision of how America should go forward. And more to the point, his business background made it possible for him to envision a working strategy in the Middle East. Politicians would never see that.
Why Do I Oppose His Run?
To the Democrats shock, the continued persecution/prosecution of Donald Trump has only increased his popularity. However, that’s the problem. Trump began to be attacked as soon as he was the nominee. Does anyone think the Democrats will stop finding specious reasons to interfere with his achieving his goals? I don’t. They hit a bit less hard in the run-up to November because they honestly didn’t believe Hillary could lose. (This was quite a shock to Hillary as her post-election meltdown showed).
As soon as he was sworn in, the attacks grew in magnitude, absorbing not just his time, but the time of all parts of the government, limiting his power to accomplish the promises he made. Despite the failure of EVERY attack, the end result was that he couldn’t move as fast nor as far as he had hoped. These attacks also cost the country a lot of money, money that could have been more profitably spent doing things like finishing the wall. He will likely win this latest attack, but it won’t be the last.
I was opposed to the wall – too costly and too easy to breach. Instead, I wanted mandatory use of e-Verify in jobs, housing, education and more. Select the immigrants we choose to have in the country and make life impossible for those who enter illegally. (And unlike the current administration, don’t give them anything if they are found; no food, water, health care, housing or transportation). But, as we can see, doing the opposite of what Trump planned has resulted in an invasion.
We can’t afford the cost or loss of time if Trump is persecuted again. How much of his agenda will be lost to court time?
What Should We Do Instead?
If I were running, I would double down on Trump’s key plans, without necessarily associating myself with him. As an independent voice, but with the same initiatives, energy and drive, I would offer a coherent, Trump-like plan, but perhaps with verbiage designed to confuse the Left into forgetting that it is the same as what Trump offers.
The candidate must be younger than Trump or Biden (surely an easy thing to accomplish). He/she should not have been too closely associated with Trump, but shouldn’t be a RINO. Sadly, given our election design, the candidate needs to be both an expert showman as well as a dedicated executive, so he can win and then execute on the plan. Each of us can contribute to the success by backing anyone who does this in the primary and then voting for that candidate. As many people will enter the race, we have to be careful not to split the vote and give the win to Trump.
Key Issues to Support
1. Immigration reform. Back sane legal immigration, giving priority to the skills and talents we need (not chain migration and other Lefty tactics). Most countries really prefer this strategy. We aren’t the welfare black hole for the world. Implement strict e-Verify so that those who do enter will probably self-deport and the attraction to come in will be lessened. One way to fund it is to tax the transfers immigrants send back to their home country (make Mexico pay for it)
2. Get rid of all of Biden’s executive orders. Nothing he’s done has been good for our country, so stopping them would be in our best interest.
3. Go back to the plan of deleting regulations at a faster pace than adding them. This might help to reduce the administrative state. With support, we could probably see the size of government reduced, which would be good for nearly everyone. Get Congress to agree to something similar for their laws. We have too many already.
4. Make sure all trade deals are in good faith and help us as a nation.
5. Keep our friendly nations close, but without selling them the farm. We shouldn’t be the peacemaker for the world, nor should we offer to rebuild nations when ours is falling apart. Don’t ever sign deals (like the one with Iran), that aren’t in our interest.
6. Replace Obamacare with a free market-based alternative. Many have been proposed by a variety of analysts. Sally Pipes, PRI, has some great ideas, drawn from her negative experiences with Canadian healthcare. As we are the chief innovators in medicine, make sure all countries pay their share of the costs instead of forcing Americans to pay more so others pay less.
7. Get behind the Constitution and ensure the Judiciary understands that the 1st and 2nd Amendments are inviable and not subject to their whims.
8. Force spending cuts by refusing to sign any bill raising costs. In fact, refuse to sign any bill that covers more than one subject. That should end earmarks. Force accountability in all agencies and reduce their budgets when they have been found granting funds to fraudulent claimants (a key problem during Covid). Then, cut taxes.
9. Push to stop our support of the UN and WHO. It isn’t in our best interest and costs too much. We should not submit to their guidance or authority in any way.
10. Ensure that Lefty terror groups like BLM and Antifa are subjected to the same legal penalties that are given to more right-wing groups, such as the mostly peaceful January 6th group. I wasn’t in support of their protest, BUT the illegitimate prosecution and the increasing evidence that government officials ginned up the activities and made things worse means that everyone should be set free and apologized to. And the government should offer substantial funds to Ashley Babbits’ family for the senseless killing.
11. Tie up the Dems with legal action against the Biden crime family and other perps.
What do you think? Feel free to comment on my Substack page on what you think should happen. Time is moving quickly and we need to ensure that the Democrats don’t win again. This is their weakest playing field (aside from the evident fraud), so we should have a chance.
Thank you - of course, you're right. Too late for me to edit though
I hope you meant the 1A and 2A are “inviolable,” not “inviable.”
