I always love learning about a new word, but this latest, “victicrat,” wasn’t good news. At FreedomFest last week (#FFest21), I first learned that this includes everyone who identifies as a victim and demands others help them. But to me, it’s more. It is also a Deep State sinkhole of people who help turn Americans into victims, dependent on the state for their very survival. Why would anyone wish to do this? Isn’t that a form of voluntary slavery?
I get why people fall into the trap—free stuff. It seems appealing until you realize that you pay for it with your rights, your agency. It’s part of the overall socialist plan. First divide the people, not by social status, but by race and sex. Then, promise them the world as long as they cede all control to the government. It’s a trap, baited, as all traps are, with something sweet. But underneath the sugar-coating is the bitter taste of servitude. In the end, the “freebies” need to be paid for. Even if you are given basic income, at some point, the cost will come due and they will assign your work to you. The free lunch ends when the money runs out.
Victicrats try to make you feel good about being on the dole. We now have “dignity cards,” instead of food stamps, so you can look like anyone else as you cash in the funds other people earned to buy your bread. You can opt out of work just for not liking to work. Find some reason to feel sorry for yourself and there’s a program designed to “help” you. But it isn’t help, it isn’t free and you have sold yourself, cheaply, into government servitude.
The bureaucrats love it. More jobs in the government that involve not as much work as the private sector, but now provide higher salaries, generous benefits and pensions. But unlike private sector work, the government doesn’t earn any money. The work that is done isn’t paid for by the earnings of the “company.” It’s stolen from the hardworking taxpayers and at some point, they may figure out that they too are slaves. They’re just getting treated worse than the “victims.”
Agency is important. Choosing how to live your life, what to do with your days and where you want to be is what agency means. But you won’t have it long if you turn to the government for every need. It’s a system designed to fail, and fail it has in every implementation ever recorded in history. There is no American version of socialism that can work. The only system we’ve found throughout the reign of humans that works and gives hardworking people a chance is capitalism. Is it perfect? No, but the more the government leaves it alone, the better it is for more of us.
Right now, we should focus on how companies have ceded control to the federal government, trading favors for their independence. A pure communist government would want to run businesses, a system that brought the USSR to its knees. Instead, what’s preferred is that CEOs run their companies, but under the heavy hand of government.
So, what can we do? Can we make a difference? I think we can. Refuse to accept the victim title, even if life has dealt you a tough hand. People everywhere are willing to help others over the rough humps of life. Just look at platforms like GoFundMe. Choose each day to look at the gifts life has given you and trust in your ability to rise above challenges and leap the hurdles each of us face.
Victimhood may look appealing in the beginning, but just read history to learn the true cost. You can do this; we can do this. Reject the handouts and “free stuff.” We can do this together.
Totally agree. I'd add too that we're already seeing a drop in availability of products and services as well. Someone needs to work and build/provide products for others to purchase and use. Our economy needs a labor pool to do that or we're going to start seeing more shortages than we already are.
