When public health initiatives began in America, they were focused primarily on infectious diseases. With the advent of antibiotics, this was a charter they could achieve. However, following the extreme, freedom-quashing measures of Covid, the public health/government complex has expanded its role (and of course, demanded an increasing budget).
Covid brought on the concept of a “public health emergency.” Given that those in power knew this was a novel bug, and that it was likely created as a weapon, they were justifiably fearful of how many might be killed. But shortly, it was clear that Covid mostly killed those with underlying health issues. Getting the illness wasn’t that serious for many. But given how successful government employees were in taking away people’s rights, they began to see how they could expand power simply by calling everything a public health emergency.
Progressive Desires Masked as Public Health
By giving various arms of public health more money and the power to control the public, the Left realized that they could push a lot of their unpopular agendas by calling them public health emergencies, while increasing control over the population.
Gun control was an obvious target for them. After all, killing or wounding people is a health issue, right? Oddly, since the vast majority of shootings are caused by people with mental health issues, it would make sense to say that mental illness was a valid public health issue to be tackled. And yet, this hasn’t happened, largely because taking guns from people increases the power of the “elect” while treating mental illness doesn’t do anything for their cause. I find it almost insane that the Left wants to run from anything related to mental illness, especially when it comes to housing. Giving someone with serious problems a house doesn’t make them a productive citizen. No, let’s just focus on taking guns away from law-abiding citizens. The public health poohbahs know they can’t do anything about criminals, so they focus on us.
Climate change offered a great opportunity to increase governmental power. Once you can blame the naturally occurring variances in climate on people, and define it as a public health emergency, then you can impose mandates on people to curb their CO2 emissions, as well as restrict them from activities, like eating meat, that relate to CO2 (cow farts). If they get their way, the rumors of us having to eat bugs will no longer just be rumors. Sadly, too many people buy the climate lie and live in fear. Fear is the way to get people to give up their God-given rights.
Race relations also comes under the public health purview because you can talk about differences in health outcomes. There are too many to list here, but as an example, Blacks and those of Mediterranean descent are more likely to suffer from sickle cell anemia. So, we need to fix this for them (which you can’t do, as it is tied to their genes). If one group smokes or drinks more than another, they need to be given more help. The belief is that discrimination has caused them to take up bad habits, so it is on the rest of us to make up for this harm.
To expand the power further, the Left has redefined “health” to mean any disparities in outcome, such as in housing, education, economics, employment and criminal justice. That pretty much covers everything.
The Government as Parent
I remember that terrible moment when Anthony Fauci proclaimed, “I am the science.” But this is what too many in the government/science complex believe now. They define what science is, ignoring the results of well-defined experiments. It is what they say it is, as long as it meets the goals of progressive politics.
If you enjoyed the Covid lockdowns, you’ll love what’s coming next. Virtually every aspect of your life will be controlled under the public health umbrella, allowing you little choice and no freedom. Power is addicting and Covid showed them how far they could go. Too often, in an emergency situation, people look for someone to guide them. If everything is an emergency, a lot of people will begin to resemble sheep, blindly following an evil shepherd who cares nothing for them, as long as they obey. This is what public health imperialism looks like.
Vote the bums out. And consider pushing the idea of closing down a lot of the public health agencies. They’ve outlived their charter and no longer provide a benefit equal to their cost.
Public health isn't public, and isn't about health. It probably has never been either one. The whole thing's a scam.
Just read an article that said among the top five surveyed reasons for a poor night’s sleep are worries about climate change, gun violence and Covid. Talk about a fixed/contrived survey. It definitely supports your thoughts about misconstruing the truth to further an abusive agenda.
