I would think that if just the opposite was true, that you're legally justified to use deadly force on any illegal entry, that the incidents might diminish. I understand that this would have other possible ramifications but it's better than causing someone to hesitate defending themselves and becoming a fatality statistic.
Of course they would. When FL made it easy to get a CCW, even attacks against the elderly and infirm dropped. It was huge! If they might get killed, crooks do tend to change their tactics. And, we have to change the civil law, so parents can't sue you when their creep gets killed. Even with favorable criminal laws, you still have to watch out for that.
